Where to Watch Game of Thrones Now

Game of Thrones is available for streaming on HBO Max, the primary platform for all HBO original content including the complete series and its prequel shows. The service offers all eight seasons and the spinoff House of the Dragon in high definition with offline download options for subscribers. The platform is operated by Warner Bros. House of the Dragon, the prequel series set thousands of years before the original Game of Thrones, premiered its second season on HBO and Max in mid-2024. The show is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood and follows the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. New episodes air weekly on the same night across the United States and most international markets where HBO Max operates. The series is produced by HBO Entertainment and 1:26 Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Game of Thrones Release Schedule and Episode Count

The original Game of Thrones series ran for eight seasons with a total of 73 episodes, concluding in May 2019. The final season, season 8, consisted of six episodes and became the most-watched HBO series premiere at the time of its release. The show averaged over 10 million viewers per episode in the United States during its final weeks, according to HBO's reported figures. The complete series remains available for streaming on HBO Max with no additional cost beyond the subscription fee.

House of the Dragon season 1 aired from August to October 2022 with 10 episodes. The second season premiered in June 2024 and is expected to follow a weekly release pattern similar to the first season. HBO has not yet announced a premiere date for any future seasons of the original Game of Thrones series. The franchise also includes the animated series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is in early development stages at HBO.

House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon is the only released prequel series set in the Game of Thrones universe, airing on HBO and Max. The show is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood and serves as a direct prequel to the original series, set approximately 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The first season starred Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, and Emma D'Arcy as members of House Targaryen. The second season continued the story with the same core cast and introduced new characters from the Blackfyre and Green factions.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is an animated anthology series based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. The show is set about 90 years before the events of House of the Dragon and follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, who later becomes King Aegon V Targaryen. HBO has confirmed the series is in development with Martin serving as an executive producer. No premiere date has been announced as of the latest public updates from the studio.

Other Game of Thrones Related Projects

Several other Game of Thrones spinoff projects have been announced or were in development at HBO and Warner Bros. Television. These include a Jon Snow sequel series starring Kit Harington and a spinoff focused on the origin of the White Walkers. The status of these projects has not been officially confirmed as greenlit series, and no release dates have been set. All current and upcoming Game of Thrones content is distributed exclusively through HBO and its streaming platform HBO Max.
