Martin Cooper was born on December 26, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. Invention of the First Mobile Phone
On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper made the first public handheld mobile phone call using a Motorola DynaTAC prototype. He called Joel Engel, a rival researcher at Bell Labs, to demonstrate the device. This event is widely recognized as the birth of the modern mobile phone.
The Motorola DynaTAC 8000X became the first commercial handheld mobile phone, launching in 1983. It weighed 28 ounces, offered 30 minutes of talk time, and cost about $3,995.
