Amtrak operates the NextGen Acela service and markets it as a premium intercity option competing with airlines and driving on the Northeast Corridor. The operator has adjusted schedules to leverage faster acceleration and higher sustained speeds, with the fastest Boston-to-Washington runs now taking as little as 6 hours 30 minutes under ideal conditions, down from over 7 hours on the legacy equipment.
