Colonel Harland David Sanders was born on September 9, 1890, in Henryville, Indiana. He held over 60 jobs before age 65, including steam engine operator, insurance salesman, and gas station operator. His first restaurant, Sanders Court & Cafe, opened in Corbin, Kentucky, in 1930 and served fried chicken and other Southern dishes. By 1935, Kentucky Governor Ruby Laffoon awarded him the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel.
